Description

The Iconic figure we have chosen for this beautiful McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016 was Australia’s ultimate rock and roller. He was the front man of a band that is now one of the biggest rock bands in music history. Their name sits comfortably amongst other such rock royalty including The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Queen.

The band and this Iconic front man cut their teeth in the crowded beer barns of Australia in the 70’s. They did the hard yards of pub rock covered in blood, sweat and beer to produce a unique guitar driven sound with unique but simple guitar riffs and guttural screams attached to lyric’s so easily penned by this Iconic urban poet. He was a wild man and lived live to the full; he took all his passions and vices to the limit which ultimately led to his untimely death just as the band was becoming an international success. As they say only the good die young!

It was an easy to fit to match the McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016 with this iconic singer. He had a strong connection with South Australia throughout the early 1970’s. He lived in the Adelaide Hills in a share house and was known to be very fond of the big red wines from the region. It was his time in South Australia that gave him his love and appreciation of South Australian red wines in particular.

He would have loved this McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016 as just like him it is balsy, in your face smooth, rich and cheeky. The fruit flavours are powerful and in your face with smooth tannins and up front finish. Just like our Icon you can sit back and enjoy his powerful urban poetry and lyrics of life. No strings attached to either this wine or the Icon.

We have been left with his undeniable mark on one of the world’s greatest bands and his magnificent street poet lyrics and songs that have stood the test of time. Sit back with his music blasting out of the speakers and enjoy both the music and this McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016.

The producer of this fantastic McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016 has a long history of producing awesome wines in McLaren Vale. They have been rated 5 Stars by James Halliday in his wine companion. The main vineyard was established in 1998 by a traditional Italian family. The Italian heritage and experience led the way for the families’ involvement with Australia’s agricultural industry. Initially, all the fruit was contracted. In 2004 the first wines were produced under the wineries label.

The philosophy was, and still is, creation of wines expressing purity of variety and regional character. They grow to the strength of the region, producing much sought after Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Comments from Our Wine Buyer: I could not think of a better Iconic figure to attach to this McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016! I have loved the band and this man all my life and I have read many books about his upbringing in Western Australia and also later in South Australia. When we were thinking of what wine we could match him to, this McLaren Vale 'Icon' Shiraz 2016 was the perfect fit. This wine is powerful, rich, with intense black and red fruits and a good structure with great balance. I hope you enjoy it whilst listening to this Icon belting out his signature tunes. My Score 93/100 Gold Medal.
